Let a few thoughtful color choices set the mood for your next character.

Start with a feeling. Do you imagine this character as gentle, playful, earthy or a little unexpected? Let that idea guide your first color choice.

Place your yarns together before you begin. Try a main shade, a supporting color and a small accent. Notice which combinations let the face and other important details stand out.

You can take inspiration from a favorite outfit, a garden or something already on your shelf. A palette that feels personal gives you another reason to enjoy the making.

A project note can be simple: the pattern name, your yarn and shade, the hook you chose and any changes you made along the way.

When you put a project down, record where you stopped and what comes next. If you are making several similar pieces, label them so you can return to the work with less guesswork.

Keep a photo of the finished character with your notes. When you want to revisit a favorite combination or make a companion piece, those small details will be waiting for you.
